Mart's Crusty Flatty Teardown Pt5. Cam and lifter removal.
Having successfully got the valves, crank and pistons out, in this episode I turn my attention to the cam and lifters. They are the next lucky recipients of a bit of Mart lovin', with a brass drift and a big hammer. A tyre lever also sees some action.
Apologies up front for sub optimal camera angles. I did splice in some still shots to sort of give you an idea of what I was doing. See how it went: https://youtu.be/K-Yk8V1g-pQ Mart. |

That was good Mart! No broken parts and didn’t hurt the block. I would have lost patience and broken out the fire wrench a long time ago!

Mart - It helped you that the cam gear is metal and not fiber....

Pete: I think you're right. I thought the same thing watching the playback during editing.

Thanks for the replies, fellas.
Plans not firmed up yet, but might involve trying my vintage boring machine. I can't afford to throw a lot of money into it. I will do my best to get it running retaining as much of the original motor as possible, and whatever used parts I have on hand. since retiring I no longer travel to the USA so getting hold of parts has become more difficult/expensive. Great to watch Mart, If you find any cracks in the block, what method will you use to fix them?

I'll cross that bridge when I come to it, Frank. Fingers crossed it's looking good so far.
