Default 97 power valve

Not getting gas out of bowl to fire took carb top off bowl full and looked the power valve stem seem to be broke off. Will this cause the problem of not firing up.Will take the other carb off in the next couple days.Acted like it was running on 1 carb and then would not run at all just crank.Thought it might be the fuel pump but it is running electric 2 1/2 psiThanks

The power valve stem is short and cut square it only gets touched when the throttle is opened and then just pushed straight down by the accelerator pump. Did you look for a stream of fuel in the venturi before taking the carb. apart?

If both carbs have fuel near the proper level (about 0.5" below gasket surface), your carburetor problem may be an ignition problem. Happens a lot! If either carb is dry or low, it will act like a huge vacuum leak as soon as you crack the throttle.

Try squirting some starting fluid into both carbs while cranking. If that does not get it to fire off, start checking the ignition.

Are you getting a shot of gas thru the acc pump j-tubes ? A Stromberg power valve
is designed to open from physical contact via the bottom face of the acc pump but
also hydraulically by the 'force' of fuel being pushed by the acc pump. If you are getting the 'shot' the issue may be elect.

No shot of fuel out of tubes Getting fire at plugs. But the top of power valve is broke off.Took frt carb off and on bench sometime it would get fuel out of tube but other times no.Brand new Stromberg dist.Going to put it back on motor and shoot gas in cars to see if it fires. It ran for a few minutes then I shut it of and never fired again.Went to fuel pump got fuel pressure so tested plug fire ,fire so next is carb problem.Fuel in carb fire at plugs but no gas in bottom of intake.Thank will keep at it.Got to get a new power valve to fix the broken one

Do not use starting fluid on a good engine. It will wash oil off of cylinder walls Bad.

IMHO you'd better get a new PV (from Max). The stem should be trapped within the valve not loose. This faulty valve will allow unregulated fuel to be drawn into the motor. Venturii vac can draw fuel from the pump well up thru the 'j' tubes and into the regulated air fuel stream without a properly functioning valve.
