Question 1938 Deluxe Mechanical Brake Adjust

I've owned my '38 for almost 3 years. Great fun. Lately when I apply the brakes the car pulls to the right. I believe I need to adjust the brakes, but have never worked on mechanical brakes. Where do I start?

In my humble opinion get the FORD procedure, it's in Polyprints or the actual printing,
not hard to find. Just as important is procuring brake shoe floaters, floaters allow the shoes to center themslves inside the drums.

Also those brakes originally had some what soft friction material... modern material can be hard... I have a set of new shoes with the soft material for $50 plus ship from Oregon. Newc

Get the reference material, then open things up to get a good look and familiarization before starting to replace or adjust anything. Then you are ready to start having some hobby fun.

Newc, Good to talk with you today. Yes, those are '37 shoes, woven. Excellent shoes to stop you on a dime! I don't have need for them, but if I did, that price is a steal! Good luck to you.

You will also need a hub puller for the rear hubs if you are wanting to get inside to the shoes.

Brake wedge adj. on the backing plate on the drivers side. Adjust clockwise until you feel a slight drag when spinning the wheel.
