Windshield frame to hinge seal

Is there any seal/w.strip that goes in the area marked in red ? I know theres a strip that goes around the sides and bottom of the w/shield frame ,but is there anything that goes across the top between the hinge and the frame top.?

That is a good question. I do not have anything in that area, and I replaced all of my weather stripping on my 31' slant and still have water egress when its raining hard.

Looking at that sketch, maybe adding some modern adhesive back foam or weather stripping might help my problem.

There is nothing in that area of the frame. Just the rubber hinge gasket as pictured in your diagram above.

I add a very thin self stick weatherstrip. Page 355 in the Ford Service Bulletins, dum dum (caulking) was recommended to be added to the header. One other note, above the metal cover plate to the wood header in your sketch, I've seen a 1/4" or less gap exposing the wood header between the plate top and visor underside on many '30-31 cars with the metal visors.

Thought that was sealed by a piece of fender or gas tank welt.

RJV, you are correct.

As to the seal in question, I have removed (and added back) something very akin to a thick friction tape in that area.

True, but some cars may still show a little of the exposed wood.

The area highlighted in red on the original post is the underside of the metal hinge.
The dum-dum tape that Ford recommended went between the header and gasket or the hinge and gasket.
I do not remember seeing anywhere that Ford recommended a gasket in the highlighted area.

Duke36 and I are on the same page I think...maybe adding a piece of weatherstripping is the answer.

Here's a neat approach to sealing off the area above the header trim panel. This was may have been posted here before ,but I copied the thread to make one for my current A coupe project..Beadrolled a trim piece to place behind the header trim plate and butts up to and sealed to the visor
This would not pass on a judged type resto ,but would work well on an everyday driver

It will be interesting to see if the windshield clears the gas cap once everything is installed. The clearance is pretty close anyway and an additional layer of steel has been introduced, not sure how that will affect the fit?
