Default Sears Engine Tester 2110

I just picked up a Sears Automotive Tester that will work well on the Model A.

It measures and checks the condensor, the volts, the dwell for a 4 cylinder engine, etc..

However...no instruction manual.

Anybody got one of these Sears Testers in their shop that has a manual?

Thanks in advance. I will try to post a pic later of the device.

BTW what is the correct dwell for the A distributor when set properly at the .018-.022" gap?

the best way to get your proper dwell reading is to set your point gap properly then check the dwell. that would be your dwell reading. model A distributor cam lobes are not always equal with sometimes uneven lobe height so using a dwell meter is'nt always the best way on these motors.

Hi Dennis....I have an older Sears Auto tester....a large box like unit. Its stashed away in my shop someplace. I think I had the manual for it. What model is yours? I would be happy to copy you a manual if its the same one.

I tested a good used A cam and with .020" gap it has 27* dwell
I tested a new repro B cam and with .020" gap it has 40* dwell

I have an old Sears unit I stashed away that I purchased new when I was a kid but don't recall where the manual is. As I recall it's pretty self explanatory. Mine is 12v so to use it on an "A" I park my modern vehicle next to me and use it for the power source for both it and my timing light. The only time I use it is to check advance curves, using the tach on the unit for my engine speeds.

As noted, set your points including a check on all four lobes and then use your tester to log the results. I would expect 33 degrees +/- but you won't know until you check it.
