Teflon EZ Steer Kit what do you think?

I have everything apart, so I was thinking of installing the ez steer kit, but I am unsure.

What are your thoughts on this product. Have you used it? Did it help? Did it not make a difference? Worth the money?

I didn't see much difference. But the shortened pitman made a big difference.

I installed the teflon kit. Didn't make a real big difference but helped some. Ensure your balls are round...

Like Bill said, the shorter pitman arm made a big difference.

I put them in one of my pickups. I did not notice much difference

Is it just me, or is this item tricky to find in Snyder's on line cattle dog?
Down the left, not under steering, not under front axle. A search of steering, Model A ... not there.

A search of "steer" brings it up.
Haven't seen the steel ones listed yet, or the bronze impregnated ones.
Are the bronze ones better?

Here they are about $20 cheaper. Says they are longer wearing compared to the other teflon seats. I am planning to use the regular teflon when I redo my front end.

I used the bronze ones. Figured I only wanted to rebuild the darn thing once. Less resistance than steel, but no different from the regular teflon in terms of performance.

I question the longevity of the Teflon ball socket parts. How many miles before replacement?

Perhaps a grease with a Teflon additive is just as good and much less expensive?

I’ve been using the Teflon-bronze kit from Mike’s in Georgia. Their current price is $73.25 and I have installed them on three of my cars.

I have them on my slant window sedan and I kept the pitman arm stock. I’m happy with the steering.

I would think if the inserts themselves were available it would be more affordable and I probably would give it a go.

You will need the correct plugs to use those inserts though. Can't use the stock ones.

Use PTFE grease, not lithium or sodium based for the teflon seats.

And too repeat, no amount of fancy material will compensated for steering arm balls that are too worn.

I have then on my two cars plus I had the ball ends replaced . Also have the pitman arm shorten .have had no problems with them . Getting ready to build a husker style delivery and plan to do the same .

I have 2 with Teflon and 4 with steel not that much difference I use grease on both The short arm makes a difference

Technically speaking Teflon in my view is not the material for this use. Teflon has very desirable properties when used in applications where reducing friction is desired. However, Teflon when placed in compression tends to distort which is called creep. This doesn't occur immediately but over time it will creep or move when in compression. Personally I would go with the original spring loaded metal insert design and apply some grease as required.

I was at A&L today and asked Allen about the teflon seats. He says he wouldn't recommend them and that he's heard too many stories of them wearing out very quickly. It made me rethink using the teflon. Maybe the bronze ones are better but for now I'll be sticking with steel and good grease.

Everyone had their take but I can tell you I have installed well in excess of 100 plus sets in the last 5 years and no one has had a failure or issue. The steel ones can wear the balls and then you have the resulting issues of loose, worn, and distorted parts. With the excellent track record I’ve seen I’ll take the Teflon units all day long. Of course replacing worn arms with good replacements from sources like A&L is a key important factor .
It there’s been someone who’s legitimately had a failure please show us in a photo.

I have had them in my Tudor 27,000 mile and 12 years. I put on an adjustable drag link last year and they looked brand new-no noticeable wear.

They do not wear the balls and I think that is their best feature.

also use short pitman arm.

The nice thing about the Teflon inserts is, that if you put them in, and you drive your car much, you will be able to change them again soon. New balls, the stock inserts and lubrication work just fine. Why re-engineer a tried and true system. Remember the Teflon kingpin bearings from the '70s how long did they last.
