Help with Door checks
Last week I bought a door check set to install on my recently acquired 1929 Sport Coupe. The set came without installation instructions, and I've been unable to find any on the internet. I recall seeing this type of unit on other coupes, and it appeared that the arms retract into either the door or door frame. However, there are no ports (holes) in my car to accommodate this. Any guidance you can give me regarding installation, additional parts required, etc. will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Help with Door checks
The 29 coupes and tudors use a reinforced rubber check strap that is attached to the door and the cowl edge with footman loops. If your car does not have them, you will need to partly remove the door panel and the cowl kick panel to find the threaded inserts to which the footman loops attach with machine screws.

Re: Help with Door checks
I think those are for the 30/31 body styles. my 29 ccpu uses the rubber straps and my 30 tudor uses the metal ones that you purchased.

Your Coupe should look the same as my 29 Tudor pictured here. |

Re: Help with Door checks
Those were the screws that were in it. I'm still looking for some original hardware.
Flat head screws sure stand out on a Model A and they are ugly! Last edited by Tom Wesenberg; 11-26-2012 at 10:00 AM. |

Re: Help with Door checks
I believe the originals were brown, so I bought a can of brown vinyl upholstery spray paint and painted my black repo straps. Not originals but they look great.

Re: Help with Door checks
Gents - your comments and photos are a great help. I was thrown by the ad for the metal arms indicating that they were used on the "28-31 Closed Cars". I'll exchange them for a Bracket Set with flex straps. Thanks - Bill
