Default '40 Ford Rear-end

Have tried knocker on the axle but the rear hub won't come off.
Any ideas on how to get the hub off???

Thanks for your suggestions!

A real proper hub puller specifically designed for early Ford axles. KR Wilson or Vintage Precision. Or maybe borrow one from an old time V8er in your area.
Mart.

Like this one, or similar!

You can still find these on eBay fairly regularly. DD

This works also. Based on KR Wilson design. Someone near you may have one you can borrow. Also check out EBAY. The puller shown cost $150 ten years ago. Well worth it.

Yes, I did jack the other side up off the ground, but it still wouldn't come off. I haven't been able to find a puller yet.

I really appreciate your help.

Back in the day, when we were young and broke, we would loosen the axle nut about 1 turn and then drive the car in increasingly aggressive "figure-8's" until it popped off.

These days, I also recommend the proper puller.

Bratton's Antique Auto Parts has rear hub puller's for protruding rings, and recessed,
for $47.00, and a universal puller for $115.00. Snyder's carries the same universal
puller for $103.00. Hope this helps!!

I purchased the Vintage Precision puller and couldn't be happier. I know the price of the puller may seem like a lot, but doing it right and saving an axle is money well spent. Think of the hassle and heart break if you have the tear down the rear because you messed up the axle.

If you never need it again, you can sell it for close to cost.

Bought a Precision one. Haven't had to use it but nice to have when the time comes. Plus I'm sure buddies will need to borrow it as well.

Keep an eye out on eBay for the KR WILSON tool. Whatever you do, DO NOT be tempted to use anything like these two types of pullers. They can easily bend a drum or hub........DON'T DO IT! DD

Hi; I did a post about a club members problem like this; The axle key had its sharp edge upward inside and 'bit' into the hub! had to cut the hub apart. A mess. Newc
