Unless you bend a wrench to fit the angle the best way is to remove the grill and tighten it so good you don't have to keep doing it over and over...… some loc-tite should do the trick.

The correct position for the V8 badge on the grille of a 1933 or 34 Ford seems to be a mystery to many people because many cars seem to have them mounted far too low. One sure way to tell what is correct is too look at original Ford factory photos which show the original position. Many restored cars and hot rods have them placed just about anywhere. The correct distance from the bottom of the Ford blue oval badge to the very top of the V8 badge is approx 1 1/8"inches. The badge can be fitted or removed without taking the grille out of the car. You need fairly thin fingers and a 3/8" open end wrench that has been modified with an "S" bend in it. Its a fiddley job but I have managed to do it several times even fitting a tiny spring washer under the nut to prevent it coming loose. I would not use Locktite as trying to undo it one day will end up breaking off the little stud. Regards, Kevin.

My 33 which does not appear to have been subjected to a lot of restoration has the top of the V8 exactly 1" below the curved edge of the grille. This equates to exactly one Mart's squashy thumb width.

That seems too low. I've numerous Ford archives photos that support Kevin's approximation of 1 1/8" spacing below the bottom of the Ford emblem (or approximately 1/4" below the curved edge of the grille).

If you watch the opening scenes of this video you can see the badges but they are a different shape to mine. I wonder if this footage was shot during the prototype phase, or mine is later or just completely wrong?
You can see the assembly line placement of the badges on 3 cars coming off the line, though.

I would agree they do appear to be somewhat higher than mine.

I purchased an articulating ratchet wrench to mount my badge from the outside of the grille. I worked well. Here is the wrench I used.

No, your emblem is the correct one for the 1933s. Those in the video are '34s, which have a different emblem with a separate background piece with corporate blue in its center section. There was originally a small piece of sheet metal (brass?) behind the '33 emblem, which was painted black. It does not extend beyond the edges of the 8 in the center.

I am unable to download any of the Ford archives '33 photos directly on to this site because their high pixel count which in this instance is over 4,000K (and emailing them to myself does not help).

Thank you David. I have the correct one that came with the car - in the now infamous stuck glove box door! WOW! Made my day when that door popped open! It has one screw; obviously it was hanging cock-eyed loose on the grill, so they put it in the glove box.The corrosiveness on the emblem matches the grille perfectly! (originally an East Coast car = salty atmosphere. But the grill & entire car hasn't a dent!

I have another complete seen-a-few-miles orig emblem. The black 'shield' placed behind/between the V8 and the two-screw grille connector appears to be coated black; not painted, and it is bendable material. (black paint would not 'hold up' to road debris)

If anyone knows of a parts place to obtain a black 'shield' and screw. please inform.
