The history of Dagmars
When you go into Wikipedia, and look up Dagmar bumpers, it shows you a picture of a 53' Mercury.
The second website is the history of Dagmars showing Cadillac's. You definitely get the feeling the automotive design teams back then were all men! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dagmar_bumper https://www.curbsideclassic.com/desi...-and-namesake/ |

Re: The history of Dagmars
Should be more than a feeling. Considering the namesake for dagmars, there clearly was a boys club in the design studios.

Re: The history of Dagmars
For all you young 'grasshoppers' too young to remember small-screened black and white TVs that you had to physically twist knobs on to change channels or volume, Dagmar gained her notoriety in early TV programming with the likes of Uncle-Milty Berle, Bob Hope, Eddie Cantor, Frank Sinatra and others. Originally named Ruth Egnor, she was given the name "Dagmar" when she was featured as a 'dumb blond' on TV's first (short-lived) late-night TV show. She should NOT, under any stretch of the imagination, be confused with the front end of a '56 Caddy. DD

Not sure how well you can see them but the ones on my 49 are Mae West bumperettes. This old gas station is outside of eureka Utah.

WOW, how do you make the pictures big like this? I know that MOST of us neophytes just place our cursors on the thumbnail and click ONCE for the same result! DD |

Re: The history of Dagmars
My other car is an MG, and she is named "Dagmar". It is definitely about the "Headlights".
Cheers, Byron.
