Default speedometer cleaning/repair on my '41 PU

Hello all,
I've tried search and couldn't find anything about speedometer cleaning/repair. I know it's there because a few months ago I was able to get my non working speedo to at least work a little. I've oiled it and got it moving but it's not reading correctly and the odometer doesn't work. I wanted to give it one more try before sending it for repair. Thanks in advance, Randy

Have you tried graphite powder on the cable?

The cable and everything works fine. I'd like to know how to remove the needle without damaging anything. I thought I had run across a post a while back that explained the procedure. Can't seem to find it now.

The needle should just pull off on that speedo.

I took my non working 39 speedometer to a local guy who repaired my clock previously. He said it was full of heavy grease possibly wicked up through the cable. He took it apart and cleaned and it works good now.
He said the grease was difficult to remove. Charged me 40.00. Mark

Living in Northern Ontario Canada, the closest place I could find to service the speedo and clock for my '46 Coupe was Bob's. I mailed them the parts initially, then drove to the shop in Michigan when the repairs were done, as I wanted to see and meet the people I was dealing with. They have a great shop, a massive amount of parts and pieces on hand for just about any make you can imagine. Very good work done in a timely manner, and the cost was reasonable in my opinion.

I believe I may have serviced it. Was able to get it apart, cleaned and got the odometer working. It's rainy here today and tomorrow so I'll test drive it Sunday. Thanks for all of the suggestions.
