Re: Flathead build on TV
Ol' Ron thanks for the heads-up, and Ronnie, thanks for the link!
That got my blood flowing! Can't wait for the next episode. I think I'll go back and watch some of the other shows until then. -VT/JeffH |

Re: Flathead build on TV
I don't think it aired yet, might need Walt's help, or ran out of money.

Re: Flathead build on TV
Just got done watching it. Very realistic numbers. I didn't hear any rpm numbers.

I'm Sad
I wish they would have spent just a little time on tuning (jets, power valves ,etc). I guess this is why they chose to run all 3 carbs with straight linkage. It would have been nice to have a 3x2 with progressive linkage for the street with a vacuum advance distributor (like Bubba builds). But then, they would have to open the new carbs and look into power valve and jet tuning. Like they said - put them on right out of the box. As said above, some RPM numbers would be nice, too. Cam used was Isky Max-1. I realize they are in the business of selling parts for their sponsors -like Summit, Edelbrock, Isky, ARP, and the others. I guess this build was better than no build. Many viewers got to see a classic engine they maybe never knew existed. But they never even got to hear the classic drive-in idle. Sad. O well, good luck to all.,...jack

Re: Flathead build on TV
I tuned in Powernation this morning on SpikeTV and lo and behold was part 2. Scat rotating assembly 4-1/4 stroke, I think. H-beam connecting rods. All buttoned up and dyno run too.

Re: Flathead build on TV
I user a SBC 6" and bore it to a snug fit. Then install a timing tape. Junk yards are full of pulleys that bolt to these, but you have to make a wide belt one. Some of the GM Harmonis balancers have a serpintine belt pully and I use that on my 280 econo engine.
