Genuine or reproduction??
I have been searching for some 28/29 Fenders for my 29 Closed Cab Pickup for some time now, advertising on various forums. I have had someone contact me saying he has a pair in great condition. My first reaction from the image was, they look almost too good against others I have seen. Is there a simple way that I can determine whether they are genuine or reproduction? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Genuine or reproduction??
Try fitting the fender support to the fender. If it fits, there's a high probabilty they're original. Check for fine serrations on the underside of the edges- originals and good repros have them. Also try the fit where the splash apron meets the fender. Originals will be a good fit. Looking at your photos I'm inclined to say they are, because you've got a full set there.

Re: Genuine or reproduction??
check the fold where its folded under the fender, the original ones had a serated crimp on the fold, i doubt if you will ever find any original fenders after all these years, most are made by gaslight , there ok but not like the originals

Thanks guys, really helpful. Havn't seen the items yet, the guy is a couple of hours away. Always helpful to have a few guidance points before viewing.

Re: Genuine or reproduction??
The original front fenders on my 28 look that good. The radiator splash apron appears to be original because repro's have flat sides. This looks to be convex, which means a compound curve slightly inward as viewed from standing in front of the radiator. Repros are very easy to spot by the flat sides.
A good body man with an english wheel could maybe put the curve in, but I've never seen it done. |

Re: Genuine or reproduction??
Maybe it is the reflection, but that fender inner panel looks like it was bumped out to clear indepent suspention on a Street Rod, if so I'd pass on them. Bob

Re: Genuine or reproduction??
Yes the reflection in the photo makes it very difficult to determine the true condition of the fenders. Always hard to judge something with physically checking the part. Thanks for the advise.

Re: Genuine or reproduction??
A picture of the underside of one of the front fenders, if anyone can offer any further input. My concerns were first raised by how clean the look. Any further advise would be appreciated.
