Default Rear brake rods Model B

Hi,

After rebuilding the front axle of my 1932 Model B I am now rebuilding the brake system. Time plenty :-) I have ordered replacement back brake rods because the old ones were different lengths and both too short. The old ones had a thicker piece somewhere in the middle touching the rubber center of the supports that are bolted on to the wishbone.

The new ones are straight. Is this thicker piece really necessary? If so could welding on a washer at the right distance work or is it fine to use straight rods?

Thank you for the many things I learned on this forum.

Dick,

It sounds like the old rods that you have are for a Model A whose brake rods had that raised ring. Original '32 brake rods did not have that raised ring which is incompatible with the design of original '32 brake rod supports, front or rear.

If you are needing to replace them, " Barnfind08 " has NOS 33-34's which are a little bit longer and easy to shorten to the proper length. I installed a set last year on my truck.
