Parts washer fluid
Just decided to drag out my parts washer after 10 years of using a large tub on a table.
My present shop is not heated(30 now)and I will drain each use into a covered container. You guys that have a parts washer; what are you using for fluid ??? |

Re: Parts washer fluid
I got a parts washer from Eastwood and they can only use water based cleaning fluid. I did some research and decided on CRC product. I haven't used it much but it seems to work pretty good BUT it also has "lifted" the paint off the surface of the washer afteer about a year!!!!

Re: Parts washer fluid
We use the SW-3 Ozzyjuice in the heated recirculating parts washers in our auto shop. I don't love it, but it's what gets ordered. A steam cleaner helps back up the parts washers.
(Adding: I'm from the old school, I don't love this either, but I prefer gasoline used outdoors with PPE for superior degreasing.) https://chemfree.com/portfolio-items/compare-ozzyjuice/

There are a butt-ton of good reviews, for whatever that's worth. I like to read the bad reviews, and one of them has this in it: "Mixed with water per directions..."

Diesel fuel. Pour in my waste oil barrel when I’m done with it. A guy down the road runs a waste oil furnace and trades me an empty barrel for my full one ...... Mark

I like "Purple Power" cleans well, won't eat your hands, non-flammable, don't stink and water soluble. Available at Auto Zone and even Wal Mart.... Chap

Re: Parts washer fluid
To me that purple crap leaves a white residue. Petroleum based is all I ever had success with.

Be careful if you use the stuff from Tractor Supply. I bought a parts washer from TS along with 10 gallons of washer fluid. When I had problems with the pump not pumping I called the washer tech line. They told me that the fluid wasn't compatible with the pump. They also said that they had told this to TS but that TS still was selling the fluid with the washer. I had to drain the 8 gallons of fluid in the tank back into the cans and take everything back to TS. It was a shame because I really liked the washer unit. I ended up with a different washer rated for the OMS I got from my neighbor for free from the company he works for. As it gets low I add some diesel to the mix and all is good. The problem with some of the fluids available is that they don't play well with aluminum. Just my 2 cents worth.

Re: Parts washer fluid
I use regular parts washer solvent from Northern Tool.
I have the washer outside and it works in all weather; just cleaned some hubs yesterday, well below freezing out. Use a gas grille cover to keep the rain and snow at bay. Top off the solvent as needed; also drain it, clean out the sludge, filter the fluid and put it back in every year or so. I keep 10 gallons of new fluid on hand so I'm not cut short, in case they can't sell it anymore. Since the solvent is "dirty"; I spray off the cleaned parts with brake cleaner if critical. |

Re: Parts washer fluid
I use Safety Kleen solvent in an old, outside SK parts washer. Works great.
