Default Adjusting doors on a 28 phaeton

I'd like to true up the doors a bit on the 4 door phaeton. They shut fine and latch, but I have one left rear door that sticks out a bit on the hinge side (about an inch). I see there are large screws in the hinge on the door and the frame. I tried to loosen them to move them back of the hinge side back in toward the body but they only came out a small distance and I could not tap gently on the to move the hinge in. I'm sure there is some play in the set up.....just can't seem to budge the door.

Sticks out an inch at the hinge? That's half the thickness of the door. You may have the wrong door hinges on the left rear that are too long. Compare them closely with the same hinges on your right rear door. There is very little adjustment on 28 Phaeton door hinges, so something else must be wrong.

From the factory there were thin metal shims placed under the body where it bolts to the frame. I had to adjust them a bit to get all the doors to fit right when we restored our car.

It fits fine, I just need to move the hinges in where they attach on the body. I might have to do some drilling to reset the hinges, something I was hoping to avoid.

I have often wondered if it is possible/desirable to have the hinge holes slotted to allow for adjustment, though of course you would have to countersink the new hole enlargement.
