Default Using slots in package tray

I cannot find anywhere the "hooks" that would attach to the back of my 1929 Coupe seat to slip into the slots in the package tray and wood support. My seat back was installed with a home-made wood support that put the seat more forward than it should be. I have removed the home-made stuff and plan to attach the bottom of the seat back to the riveted brackets on the riser and provide some sort of "U" shaped brackets to attach to the seat back and slip down into the package tray slots and wood which I will install behind the lip of the tray. Does anyone have some pictures of how they attach their Coupe seat back?

I've searched several supplier catalogs and cannot find anything that looks like it would work.

Ha, I asked a very similar question just two weeks ago and no one responded.

I'll post some pics of mine just in case that helps – can you share some pics of yours?

I don't have any photos of what my seat attachment looked like before I tore it all out. Any photos you can find would be helpful. It's been years since my car was all together, and when I set the seats back in it, it seemed like the front of the bottom seat was a lot higher than I remembered. My seat back was not attached to anything and just sat on top of the bottom seat and leaned up against the wood in front of the package tray.

I will want to install seatbelts eventually. Right now I have a whole lot of wood to replace in the belt rail so that the package tray will have something to attach to.

Stay tuned!

Service bulletin page 257 has detailed instructions on replacing lower brackets with A47492B and changing upper package tray hardware for more leg room on coupes.

Recently I bought the upper brackets that. Fasten to wood frame from Berts.

Upper tray has three configurations

Back
Neutral
Closer

To steering wheel

I've looked at that service bulletin. It's OK, but it seems to assume the presence of hardware that I don't have and can't identify.

What's the part number for the brackets you're talking about?

I could not find the part number in catalog but if you call Steve Becker on Tuesday thru Friday 900 to 400 PM MST and Saturday 0800 to 1200 he can tell you the part number and if they might have the original parts to solve your problem.

Closed Sunday and Monday so they can find all of those original parts!

They have tens of thousands of original parts not listed in catalog as inventory changes daily.

From catalog:

For original parts needs, we will still need an email or telephone call, as our extensive original parts inventory changes every day and every part needs to be described as to its current condition, availability and price.

FWIW.. mine were just two pieces of stock approx. 1/8th x 3" x width of the slot, riveted or
screwed into the back of the seat frame. The assembly line or seat cover shop probably had a wooden crate or barrel of "cutoffs" , just for that purpose.! No part numbers.. just scrap pieces.! kb

After re-reading post one ...

I think that what you are calling a "homemade part" is very likely the original supplied by Ford and detailed in SB 257 and after you send photos to Steve at Berts that this might be the conclusion.

The wooden stick is in fact part of the original package tray and can be installed two different ways to move back seat cushion forward or backward.

Unless you have a wooden seat cushion frame which has been modified.

I have the original piece of wood with the slots. The "home-made" part was a wooden frame that positioned the seat back a couple inches forward of the stock position. It was bolted to the seat riser and connected to the front of the slotted piece. I am putting the slotted piece behind the lip of the package tray. I need to replace the belt rail wood before I can re-attach the tray. Having fun.

Can you send a pic of the riveted brackets on your seatback riser? Mine don't match each other and seem like they're improvised.

I went out to take a photo and my phone camera died. I will recharge and try again later. Both of my brackets are identical and look to be original.

Those gave me a better idea of how to interpret this service bulletin on moving the seatback. If I'm reading this correctly, the seatback would originally have been attached to your riveted brackets by screws running through those two holes on the vertical part.

They want you to remove the screws from the seatback and then remove that bracket completely by shearing off the rivet. You then toss that bracket and get a different bracket, part A-47942-B, the horizontal part of which hangs off the end of the riser. This gives you the extra 1-5/8" at the lower edge of the seatback.

You then remove the four bolts that pass longitudinally through the package tray bar and put the bar, as you mention, behind the lip of the tray so that the slot in the sheet metal and the slot in the wooden bar align. You then cut the excess fabric off and reinstall the seatback.

These optional "A-47942-B" brackets appear to not exist anymore. I will go ahead and email Bert's, as Benson suggested, on the off-chance they have some and can at least give me the measurements. Shouldn't be hard to fabricate some, or maybe my existing brackets can be adapted.

Update: Bert's doesn't have any and doesn't know what the dimensions would be.

Maybe I'm missing something but wouldn't the dimensions be the same as the original bracket except 1-5/8" longer on the leg that bolts to the seat riser?

That is certainly a reasonable guess. I don't have the original bracket, so I can't make that calculation.

walkerlakeprinter, can you measure the LxWxH of your brackets when you get a chance?
