Re: powder coat wheels
When I did mine three years ago, I had them powder coated three times. First a primer coat on the bare metal, then a standard gloss black and finally a clear coat. I just spray them with a hose and they look like I just polished them. Great job by my powder coater.

Re: powder coat wheels
Al in NY: I had not heard of primer coat, color, then clear powder coating. Can you share an approximate cost of coating already blasted wheels?

Re: powder coat wheels
Mitch, do you have the primer applied by the powder coater using the powder coating method or by regular spray gun using an epoxy primer.

Re: powder coat wheels
Question on power coating. If the part has pits will the powder coat fill these areas so they don't show?

Re: powder coat wheels
Bruce in Upstate NY, the triple powder coating cost me $80.00 a wheel.

Re: powder coat wheels
The powder coater charged me $65 per wheel for sandblasting, polyester priming and top coat and they have held up well with no chipping. Best to have good wheels with no pits to start with or go back after sandblasting and priming then fill the pits with metal fill epoxy.

Re: powder coat wheels
I had Les Schwab Tires send six of my my 19" wheels out to Oregon to be bead blasted and powder coated black gloss. The wheels were pretty well rust free but they still had their old paint. They came back looking like the highest black gloss that you could have ever asked for. They charged me only $75 per wheel. One had a rust pit that was too deep and it still showed through the finish. I only needed five good wheels so I am very please. I have hand scraped (sand blasted too) , sanded, primed, and painted Model A wheels with epoxy enamel in the past and I could not do the same job for less than $150 a wheel.
