Nice one Pete. I have ridden in a 1903 Model A Ford, owned by the Colonial Motor Company here in New Zealand, the oldest Ford in the country. There has certainly been a little bit of development over the ensuing years!

Now, the next time you fly somewhere, bear in mind that the engine on the Wright's flyer, which went up about two years later, was probably not as sophisticated as Ford's engine.

That was outstanding, Henry Ford was the underdog in the race, Alexander Winton was expected to win, so much so that he had the trophy designed. He never expected Henry Ford to be a competitor, let alone win the race, and take home the trophy!

Wow, lots of lessons learned there that still apply today. Horsepower may get you la*d but torque will get you paid (that was like a 200lb flywheel!!) Multiple coils to reduce firing cycle down to a hit-and-miss engine like the Cadillac 8-6-4.

75mph in that buggy with a small child and wife living in my parents home -- I'd be kicked out and divorced.
