Around here at least half of the parts store employees are female and they know their stock better than the men.

I work for an automotive bearing manufacturer and deal with this daily.
Chain stores are stocked by VIO (Vehicles In Operation) in the given zip code of that store. This is how HQ arrives at the "velocity" of what a store moves. How many '50 Fords are registered in the area? Even weighed against all the parts used on the '50 Ford that fit other vehicle applications, the movement numbers are so small, nothing of any consequence would be stocked. |

I guess I'm real lucky. My Napa Auto Parts store caries a lot of older stuff and if it is not in stock they will get it from the warehouse and I can pick it up the next day. There's three specific counter people that I go to and they know their parts and how to look in the catalog.
