Default Rear end out of a dune buggy

I disassembled a very old dune buggy about 35 years ago. Did not want my son and his buddies to kill themselves. It was a shortened flathead chassis of an unknown year. Here is the rear end. What year might it be.

I also have the front axle, wishbone and spring. We will be moving and I do not want to take it with me.

Looks like 37-40 at first glance.

Is there just a single eye on the spring perches?

53 inches. One eye on spring perches. They had 46 to 48 brakes as I recall. Been a long time

It looks like a 37 to 40 rear and that it had 46 to 48 brakes ita was probably out of a 37 or 38 and had the mechanical brakes changed to juice

Also has the earlier style shape of the the torque tube

So that must be a 37-38 front axle?

qmdv, Your 53" at the backing plate doesn't match your tape measure 481/2" at the spring hangers. Something funny there, so check this Street Rodder article and measure your rear end again.

The 53 inches was where the backing plates bolts up on the rear end. The 48 1/2 was front axle top spring perch holes

Just read the article and it was very informative. And my bad. The 48 1/2 was at the spring perch holes of the rear end. I later measured the distance at the point of were the backing plates bolt up and that is 53 inches. The article tells me that it is a 42 to 48. The front and rear brakes were the later type hydraulic. And the front axle top spring perch holes were 40 3/4.

The engine was not a 59AB (but that could have been changed) Had a side shift trans. So now that I know it is all 42 to 48 I can put it all up for sale. Too heavy to ship so it will probably be pick up only

Front axle looks like a '42 up axle with that perch bolt spacing.

Looks as if the 48 front axle has two holes at the end.

The 32 Highboy will be on the road in time for summer. How will a 75 year old guy look with "flattop boogie"
