zenith carb leak
after a mile or so drive today, it appears there is a fuel leak where the press-in tube containing the GAV enters the carb body. The tube appears to not be fully seated. Looking at MAC's assembly illustration, perhaps I'm describing the adjusting needle housing...
checking the previous owners paperwork, I see an entry in 6/2011 for a zenith gasket set & drain plug/CAD. I was wondering if there was a more detailed carb parts breakdown showing the adjusting needle seat inside the lower carb bowl. hoping I can just remove the GAV & check the needle for wear groves, etc. I'm hoping the somehow things got loose and I can just retighten externally. Any comments, Thanks, Dick |

Re: zenith carb leak
Check out these 2 links, it shows how to polish your GAV seat, on Zenith Carbs, with cast iron seats. The tube that houses the Adjusting Needle is screwed in, not pressed in.

Re: zenith carb leak
You described your GAV housing as "a press-in tube". Is it is a press-in and not a screw-in GAV then you probably have a Model B carb, not a model-A carb.

What I did today: 1.visual examine found needle point/tip clean with no scoring/grooving. 2.determined "off", max lean clockwise position has in-cab knob indicator at 10 oclock. 3. with 1 full ccw turn for starting, then cw to 1/4 position, ran roughly. 4. experienced condensation running down carb & off intakemanifold. Not sure what I've achieved but at least didn't have gas smell like yesterday. |
