Default Chemical Dip Needed

Is anybody still doing chemical dip derusting in California or Nevada? I know most are out of business due OSHA problems, environmental concerns etc. but are there any still in business in California or Nevada? I have a friend who feels that is the only way to go for a unibody (Nash Healy) car he has. Any help would be appreciated. Jim in San Jose

If you have any automotive restoration shops in your area then they would probably know if the service is available locally.

These folks started out as a dipping service and now do a lot more. Maybe they are still dipping.

You didn't ask this but setting up a spray & drain & spray the same fluid using something like Rust9111 in a plastic tarp pool with a fish tank pump could do the job without dipping which will be questionable to come all the way off the unibody!

I think there is a place near Sacramento Vintage...you might give them a call and inquire.

There is one in southwest Idaho that recently said they are setting up an operation in the town of Kuna.

Strip Clean in Santa Ana . I had them do a flathead block years ago and it looked brand new inside and out when they were done with it.

I just drove up and back to where you are in San Jose from SoCal. That's a long way to drive (twice) to have a car stripped, 6-hour's each way.

Redi Strip in Santa Fe Springs was the best place to have bodies dipped but CA regulations became too much for them and they left the State. They moved to Phoenix, AZ. around 1985. The AZ environmental regulations also caused them to close. They were bought out by CMI.

Clean Strip, Santa Ana.

HAMB threads about Clean Strip and Redi Strip. One of the HAMB guy's that worked for Red Strip describes the process.

Also, there is L&M Stripping in Van Nuys. Somebody told me about this place but I have never used them.

L & M in Van Nuys. Old time place, great work, very fair pricing. They do Leno's work and I believe H & H.
Big tanks, can do complete bodies and frames.
My opinion and experience.

L & M stripped all of my sheet metal including the body in '86. Everything came out assembly-line clean with no warpage or any other potential damage from blasting.

Keep in mind that if you do the chem dip, meticulous cleaning must be done afterwards to remove ALL of the residue or, in time, it will leach back thru the paint. Ask me how I know. I had a small spot right below the drip rail. I see they are still in the same location.

Many thanks to everyone who responded. I just talked to L&M Stripping in Van Nuys CA (818-983-1200) and they still do chemical dipping. Isn't The Barn great! Jim in San Jose.

I have used L & M on three vehicles since '98, great work. I used Clean Strip on two vehicles, also great work with the added bonus of having a secondary neutralizer dip coating that prevented secondary rust on a bare body for several years.. My 39 conv, dipped in 2000, and '49 Olds 88 2dr dipped in 2010 have experienced no issues. I tried to call Charley at Clean Strip yesterday, phone is disconnected..
