Front Spring Perches
I'm trying to get my front spring perches out and have reviewed previous threads on Ford Barn. Looking for opinions regarding Heat or No Heat. These seem to be really stuck. They have been soaked and soaked. What is the easiest way to brake them loose. Pounding from the bottom?? A bar in the perch and move left and right till they come loose. Cut the top off and drill them out?? Press them out?? I tried to remove one by pounding from the bottom and using a long stroke air hammer but no luck. So before I move any further I need advice from guys that have been here before.

Re: Front Spring Perches
I just removed a very stuck one that someone had tried driving out. All they had achieved was a very mushroomed end on the perch, rendering it useless. I used a press taking care to support the axle close to the perch so as to not bend it. It took a lot of pressure but out it came. Now looking for an new perch!

Re: Front Spring Perches
I had the use a press, in addition to heat. Put it in a small 10 ton press (from Harbor Freight) and put as much pressure on it as I could. Then heated the area of the axle by the perch. It quickly popped free.
Good luck |
