Pics Wanted: '36 Coupe Headliner...
Could someone post pictures of their headliner in a '36 coupe. Looking for 3w but interested in 5w as well. The more the better.
Is the headliner held up with sprung rods or...?? Thanks |

Re: Pics Wanted: '36 Coupe Headliner...
Here's a few pics of the headliner that was in my 3-window when I got ot. The car was in storage since 1960 and I doubt if the headliner was the original one, but maybe they will help you. Ignore the tach - was installed by the '60's owner as he was going to make it into a drag racer.
I think I might also have pics of just the bows and their placement, but I wouldn't be able to get them until the weekend - going to Hershey early Wed. am. PM me if you'd like them, providing I can locate them. -Bob |

I forgot to mention, the headliner was tacked to the wooden top bows for the soft top and the outer sides had short metal rods (those are the pics I need to find). The sides were secured by small tacks into wooden tack strips which were captured in the sides of the inner body.

Re: Pics Wanted: '36 Coupe Headliner...
Vic, You have a pretty keen eye to have observed the left hand column shift.
The left hand column was a very cool modification in the early '50's.. This little trick served four purposes; No. 1..The stick was removed from the floor giving added room for a passenger in the middle. No. 2..There was a tendency to hit ones knuckles on the '36 windshield crank-out knob, which was eliminated. No. 3. The shift pattern was changed.. first gear was up and second gear was down... During drag racing it was a downward pull to get the trans into second gear. N0.4. This is the really big one.. Shifting with the left hand meant the driver did not have to take his hand/arm off of his girl friend, who could sit very close to him because the gear shift was not in the way. Of course there was a trade off... with a stick on the floor which had been shortened, which was very common at the time, the ability to casually slip ones hand from the stick to the girls knee was eliminated.
