Primary Terminal in Distributor?
Since we have lost an hour this morning to do projects before church, I was reading my Model A Times article on the pop out switch. The article discusses checking for switch failures by using a test lamp with one side connected to the "primary terminal in the distributor". I know most know which terminal this is, but I guess I do not. Where is the primary terminal in the distributor? I searched the forum, but at least for me, I did not find the answer.
Thanks |

Re: Primary Terminal in Distributor?
I wouls say it is the power feed from the ignition switch to the distributor. So, in a Ford distributor it would be the end of the metal encased wire where it goes into the distributor.

Re: Primary Terminal in Distributor?
Primary refers to the wiring that carries battery voltage. Secondary refers to the higher Voltage - lower amperage that the ignition coil and condenser produces. So the primary wire referred to here is the wire from the dash to the dist. body inside the armored cable. Also note that pri. wires have less insulation than secondary wires. Secondary wires, because of the high voltage can JUMP to ground.
