Default Generator and fan setup 59 AB

Would someone please post a photo of a stock generator and fan mounting for a 59AB? I currently have a34 with a 59AB and alternator, want to return to a stock generator. Addendum: does this look like the stock mount and fan?

Dean ......What you have there in the picture appears to be an aftermarket bracket to mount an alternator on a flathead Ford manifold.

59AB Ford engines did NOT have a generator-mounted fan, as can be seen in this picture of a 59AB type engine. The second picture shows an earlier generator pully mount for a fan. DD

59ab is not the stock engine for your '34, will you have clearance to the radiator with the stock hub/bracket mounted fan? I have a 59a in my '38 and have the fan mounted on the generator.

The STOCK fan hub on a 59AB was first introduced in 1942. The picture below shows how far forward it protrudes on the engine. There is nowhere near the clearance with the REARWARD-slanting '34 radiator as there is in a '42 thru '48 Ford with it's straight-up standing radiator.

Apparently, since you are already running an alternator, you need an alternator pulley that is drilled and tapped to accept a Ford fan, like the one shown below from SPEEDWAY MOTORS. Click the link BELOW for the Speedway advertisement. Hopefully, this will help. With more questions, just holler back. DD

V8coopman, good point. I bought the car with the alternator already installed, I want to put a generator back on as I don’t like the look of the alternator. The stock 59AB fan is not mounted on the generator but further down so there’s a little more room. I measured 6” from the front surface of the intake to the radiator.

So what your saying is there should be clearance for a generator mounted fan but not enough clearance for the stock hub mounted fan if running a 59AB in a '34? Or do I got that bass ackwards?

Will ....As you likely know, a 59AB is essentially the same physical size as a '34-type flathead. It's the 59AB-type hub and fan assembly that takes-up too much room to fit ANY flathead in a '34 Ford. In fact, that hub/fan assembly won't fit into any of the earlier, slanted radiator Fords. It is a massive assembly to be avoided for most of the '30s Fords, as seen below.

BELOW is a 59AB-type engine with a GENERATOR-MOUNTED fan. DD

That's what I figured, just wanted to clarify as I think the OP misunderstood you in his response #7.

My 59a in the '38 has a generator mounted fan and the stock hub fan definitely would not fit.

The early stock generators mount the same. They have a tang that fits into a slot in the intake manifold. This is the same if its a fan mount gen or a 59A style mount.

My 34 has a 59ab, with an EJ Whitney alternator conversion. They convert your stock 34 gennie, which fits on the 59, to an alternator. Not cheap, Not a lot of amps, but fits the stock fan, radiator , and looks correct

The car I just bought HAS an alternator which I’m removing in favor of the stock generator. I’m a purist. Alternator and bracket I’m selling for $195, $249 from vendors.

.

If you're that much of a "purist", that "59AB" is gonna stick-out like a sore thumb to any enthusiast with an inkling of knowledge. Who knows....it's possible that the previous owner utilized that alternator 'cuz the generator wouldn't carry headlights at night, for instance. Ya ain't gonna fool the crowd to any degree by replacing the alternator for a gen. If it were me, I'd paint the alternator semi-gloss black, and keep on truckin'! DD

It would have to have the extended-snout crankshaft for that to work, plus....there just ain't room in a '34 for a crank-mounted fan. DD

Point taken Coop, just don’t like the look of an alternator. Thanks all.
