It's metamerism - an object will appear as different colors when viewed at different angles or under different illumination angles from the same light source.

I think the latest Paint & finish guide from MAFCA is the way to go. It has much larger paint chip samples in it.

Hello, auto color library has lacquer available,except in California do a search online, probably one of the few places lacquer is still available,been phased out,some younger body shop men never heard of it let alone spray it .Most shops use base coat clear coat 2 step on modern cars .Correct color match can be frustrating.
