Default Hand Brake on Juice Brake Modification

I am installing new brake cylinders and shoes on a 1929 Model A pickup that has had juice brakes installed. On the front, I had to move the shoes in as far as they would go to get the drum on. On the rear, when I attempted to attach the horizontal hand brake activator, I had to move the shoes out to get the pins lined up. As I suspected, the drum would not go over the shoes as they were extended beyond the internal diameter of the drum. The solution appears to be simple -- use an end mill to shorten the horizontal arm. I would need to cut out a portion of the rounded raised portion as well as cut back the slot that sits on the pin welded to the vertical arm. Same problem on both rear wheels. I attempted to get replacement parts to "play" with to test my theory, but I could not locate the parts. Is this a normal problem, or do I have other problems? Is my solution the correct one? Where can I get the hand brake parts? Thanks.

The hydraulic brake conversion is very common but I have never heard of the problem you are having. Figure out your problem and fix it instead of cutting. Did you have the drums turned and shoes arced? Put your general location in your profile and maybe someone can suggest a place to get the shoes arced if they have not been.

There should be some way to slack off on the cable so the shoes will retract.

There used to be an electric shut off valve to install on the main master cylinder line.
You jist "STOMP" the brakes, switch it off & VOILLE'--You have an "EMERGENCY BRAKE"????

Turning drums would work but would use up a lot of material. Shoes fit nicely in the drums but removing material would work as well. I'm in the Dallas area. Cable length may be it. It looks like if I lengthen the cable the shoes may retract. Thanks I'll try it tomorrow.

Don't cut anything in the drum area. Take ALL tension off the cables, see if the drums fit now.
Go to what ever gizmo you've got to put tension on the cables and work your "magic" there. JMO

Pictures of the other end would help.
