Default Floor Board Felt Strip Installation

I have seen from pictures that each of the two floorboards have a felt strip installed around each.

Question, is there any felt strip applied between the two wood pieces? (arrow).

Thanks,

I don't believe so. I have some original floorboards and I don't see any remnants of webbing or tacks.

They came original with webbing installed (but not at the
at the mating edges of either board where the arrow in the picture points)

I think it was web material like what goes on the frame under the splash aprons.

When I built my floor boards I wrapped felt around the entire lower section.
figured it would stop any squeaks.
There was no problem with fit, as as it installed perfectly.
So I guess it is a personal choice.

The floorboard thickness is to be 11/16" thick. The felt strip that goes around the floorboards is 2" thick.

So, to install the felt strip correctly, is it mounted flush with the top and folds down and on the bottom, or is the felt mounted flush with the bottom and folds up and over the top?

Thanks

That is the correct way.

I put mine flush with the top and folded it onto the bottom.

I pulled it nice and tight around all edges, secured it down with staples, trimmed off the excess on top and bottom with a nice new razor blade. It was tight, clean and secure.
The felt strip is nowhere near 2" thick. When pulled tight it is thinner then it is when static.
Note: I did not use the felt in the transmission cut-out or the battery access hole,
just the mating surfaces.

Good Morning...I have a set of floorboards done in the 1970's and they have a felt strip all around that is the same width as the floorboards and the felt was attached with long thin nails. Enrie

The original welt for the floorboards is more like about 1 1/2" wide. It's fastened with small tacks (nails), so it's level with the top side. The bottom side is folded in the corners, so it's 3 layers thick in the corners. You'd think the corners would have been mitered, but my original early 29 Tudor boards aren't.
