These have been around a while, they are the French blocks.

I should have bought two sets of rods when Vern Tardell was selling them for $125 a set.

Still a good bargain at $270.

That reminds me. I wonder how "Tod" is doing with his new block project. We haven't heard from him for quite a while.

The Tod thread has been extremely interesting to watch. I too wonder what is up. This French block from SoCal doesn't really seem so bad at 3 grand, considering all the 'ifs' with an old block and the dough needed to confirm condition.....Yes a flathead costs way more than a small block, but it is way, way more cool and interesting. No comparison.

I did a little checking, and it seems that "Tod" has been on the Model "A" section of "The Ford Barn" lately touting a bunch of his "banger" stuff (heads and blocks).

Sounds like a good block for the replacement pre 49 Vehicles. However the ports and the factory relief, reduce it performance potential, and it's abit pricy.
If it wasn't relieved. the Cr for a nice street engine would make it more practical. However with all this said, I'm glad it available, Good blocks are getting hard to find and rebuilding them is very costly. Many of us build these engines because we love them. WE, you and me, run these engines, our friends run them. In stock form, they'll run on our roads with just a little work on some safety stuff (Like Brakes). Just to have some fun with a flathead.

Ditto. Went to a local car show, 30's era well represented, nothing but sbcs. Boring.

I bought a block and main caps when Halibrand first put them on the market - $1500 each at the time. They are a really, really nice block, 80 lbs heavier about with a lot more nickel in them. 120 over is nothing to these blocks with higher possible. Had one in my 40 coupe - all American internals. 8va top and front, 59ab bottom and rear. You have to block off the breather vent on the pan and cut a groove in the triangular area where e oil/fumes would pass through there to drain back into the oil pan. I have pics if anyone needs and scanned copies of the original paperwork sent with them. Ol Ron figured this out for me many years ago after I discovered oil all over the place underneath on my first long distance run to York nsra show .....

You can come up with a lot of info on these engines if you Google french block ..

Better hurry up and grab these before they're all gone. Oops too late. Last 21-studder sold in 1983. 8^) Jack E/NJ

Yep - it was the Standard version. You also took a ride in my old 40 Ford pickup. It was red with a rumppety-rump 3-deuce 327 at York a year or so before then. You were vending in the old paddock area at the time. Man that truck was quick ....
