That a is "Almasy's Ford A"!
You can read about their desert adventure in Tunisia (in this re-created desert cruiser Model A), in their book titled "Desert Vehicles - Almasy's Ford A" (desertstories.org website). (Just click on the title to view the information about their book.) ....or read an abbreviated article about their journey in the Tunisian Desert (driving this Model A) titled: "In die Wüste wie anno 1933" (Sorry, but it is written only in German, but there are some interesting photos.) (Just click on the title to view the article.) There are also lots more photos of the original vehicle (and details about this recreation) on the "Desert Vehicles Preservation Society's" web page: http://www.desert-vehicles.org/index.php?article_id=206 The "Almasy's Model A" recreation started out as this Roadster Pickup (in Germany): Brad in Maryland Last edited by Brad in Germany; 09-29-2019 at 11:55 PM. |

Re: 9.00 × 13 tyres for Sahara setup
On Cape Cod in the 1930's, 1940's and 1950's it was common to see 9.00 x 13 inch tires on Model A Fords used on the sandy beaches, usually by surf casting fisherman or by folks who just liked to ride on the beach. All of the ocean beach driving on the outer end of Cape Cod ended with the advent of the Cape Cod National Seashore, a national park. General Jumbos were the popular 9.00 x 13 tire used locally. I still have a new inner tube of that size in its original box. I have not checked it to see how it has survived, but if anyone needs it I will check its condition. I sold my 9.00 x 13 wheels and hub caps yeaRs ago.
