No a fibre gasket is not enough, I use a fiber gasket then a thin (about 0.030") stainless plate to block the hole, looks same as gasket obviously no heat hole, then another fiber gasket, then the carb.
This would end the worry.
Martin.

I used an old fiber gasket to block off the hole. I suppose I could make a thin metal plate.

Uncle Max makes a nice metal block off plate that is nearly invisible when installed. I'm using two of them on my triple setup, till I get it broke in.

Sorry, but opinions are like belly buttons, everybody has one. The more you ask, the more you get. Still say the 94 is a much better carb than the 97, (my opinion and no one else). I guess so did Henry, that's why he changed.

I'm with Dick (above). Do any of you know how hard that is to say?

A 94. They flow more air than the 97's. People in olden times used to run multiple 97's on flat v-8 engines because flatheads don't breathe very well, and most street cars with multiple carbs run better with smaller carbs that don't flood them out.

Truth to tell, even 3 97's overcarbs most street flat engines. That's why the 2x2 intake was the most popular.

I guess I'll have to learn how to rebuild them properly before I put the ones I have to use.
Till then I'll entrust them to Uncle Max.
I'm with ya on that one. I bought a 3x2 script Edlebrock intake with 3 chrome 97's on it and a set of early script Edelbrock heads for the flat 8 in my 38 tudor in a deal so sweet even I have a hard time believing it happened.

I think I am not going to have much of a problem adjusting to them. They even came with the louvered chrome breathers and progressive linkage.

If running a single carb the choice for me would be the new 250 CFM Stromberg 97 or BIG 97 from England. Looks just like the original 97 from outside but bigger inside. Perfect for the mild street Flathead.
