Default Early Ford V-8 Bell Housings

I have quite a few early Ford bell housings. These are '49-'53. Some are Ford, some may be Mercury and one has a Lincoln tag on it. They have different depths and some variance in bolt hole patterns. I would like to identify them. Does anyone know a good source for that? Has anybody done an article or an online post about it? I searched the V-8 Times and could not find one. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

There are several articles on bellhousings. I am not at my computer right now, but can post some information later. Think VanPelt's site has bellhousing info as well. Wilcap adaptors also has information.

the thick ones are 6 cylinder, the thinner ones are v8. the mercs have a bracket on the bottom to bolt to the oil pan. gotta have the correct starter plate, check vanpelts for the real scoop. actually, from memory, which is questionable, the merc bracket is on the pan, not the bell
