Anti freeze help

Good morning guys. I made the mistake of doing a google search on antifreeze and was overwhelmed with info. Now I am afraid I am over thinking this. For a 50/50 mix does it matter if I use regular ethylene glycol (old green anti freeze) or should I use propylene glycol (Sierra) for my flathead?

The green has always worked just fine for my 1952 F-1 truck. Suggest that you buy the concentrated stuff and make your own 50/50 mix. Saves money in the long run.

Same here, just get the full strength green, I checked mine with an anti-freeze tester, good to go at -40 below.

I have been using propylene glycol for 17 years (its green also). My truck runs cool and the inside of the aluminium heads still look like new so thats good enough for me. Its supposed to be less toxic also.

I use BLUECOL.....more blue than green but I guess it's the same stuff

One thing to think about is the water you use. The fewer minerals in the water the better!

Green for 35 years in 35 plus old Fords. Aso use a bottle of Bars copper sealer and two
bottles of a wetting agent such as Purple Ice.

As a result of this information I chose the propylene glycol because it is safer for animals (I had a dog die of sipping ethylene glycol my son left in a bucket) and it transfers more heat at slower coolant flow rates.

Prestone now sells a propylene glycol called LoTox. Same as Sierra but cheaper.

Amen, I use distilled or soft water whenever I can.

I use Sierra and distilled water. Runs cool and no problems.
