Default No brake lights! Lets fit a mechanical switch. Common hydraulic switch failure.

I realised I had a problem with the hydraulic brake light switch on the 32 Sedan. It isn't very old and I had seen them fail before. I needed a quick reliable fix so I decided to fit a heavy duty microswitch. Watch along and see how it goes.

Mart,

Funny you started a thread on this, I was considering switching from a pressure switch to a mechanical contact myself. I really have press on the pedal to have it activate and it's the Harley Davidson one.

I was going to use the lever one Mac's sells, #13480- UNIV, but it breaks (N.C.) when the lever is moved. It's the opposite on what is needed, close on movement, which is N.O.
I'm still pondering what to do.

If you are running silicon brake fluid you will need a special switch, regular switches will fail shortly. Try Ron Francis WireWorks: (800) 292-1940. I have found the quality hydraulic switches to be reliable and would suggest keeping yours.

I had two Ron Francis switches fail, not worth the money in my opinion. Use a Napa SL129 switch from a '50's Chevy pickup, they screw right to the toe board and have a nice long arm the brake pedal will trip.

That's the switch I always use. Easy to mount and wire up. Chevrolet used those on pickups for years and still readily available..

I'm still pondering what to do.

And we're still pondering what your abbreviations (N.C.) and N.O. are supposed to mean. (The devil made me do it.)

Normally Open = N.O.
Normally Closed = N.C.

Corretamundo!

I should have not abbreviated. Being an electrician it's just second nature terminology for me.
