That was very interesting; I was expecting to see a generic clip of Indy 500 stuff, but the emphasis on the Ford builds was welcomed. A couple of questions : Is the gentleman with the thinning hair and "pencil-thin" mustache prominent in the factory footage Harry Miller? Did anyone else notice that the cars initially on the track had what appear to be 2 97's, while the later footage shows 4 carburetors of some other type (Winfields?). Great video (except for the padding on the end.)

I can always dream, I do love a ‘34
Just read your book , will be going back to it often
Do you think they were running Babbitt bearings in the Indy motors or insert bearings that came out in’35. They say race on Sunday sell on Monday

With respect, the Ford Indy cars in that film are '35s, not '34s. Note the '35 grilles and the lazy V8 artwork on the bodies.

Dangit, You know me as an old farm truck guy, but that restored Miller Ford is one gorgeous automobile by anyone's standards... Thanks Ron for bringing this clip to our attention!

The carburetors were Strombergs with some Harry Miller influence, they used 4 bolt bases with one large throttle plate. I believe Ted Horn was the first to switch to the manifold shown with the two Stromberg 97’s. Compression ratio was 9.5 with Bohnalite aluminum heads, magnetos were used and I’ve never run across any camshaft specs. The gentleman looking over the engine at 2:33 is gifted race mechanic Jean Marcenac.
The 43 car pictured here now runs hydraulic brakes but in a hint of things to come the Miller-Fords had cable operated brakes.

Thanks Ron, very interesting. At the 4 minute duration of the film, looks like
that might be Henry sitting in the car.

There was one larger water pump driven off the camshaft, with a magneto mounted on the inside of the firewall which was typical of a Miller car. A cable drive off the crank nose turned the mag.
