Model A rear axles

Are we seeing the production of brand new Model A rear axles to cease. Snyders and Brattons don't have them any longer.

Is that a question? Some repro axles were of terrible quality and expensive. Not a good combination. Going to swap meets one gets the impression that the're still are millions out there. Hard to tell with Model A guys. I took a half dozen beautiful axles to Turlock. Offers ranged from ten to fifteen bucks. That kind of market will not support expensive repros. I needed some nice axle bells so after hearing of the local attitude, four with near perfect bearing surfaces followed me home@ $25 ea. The sleeves seem too soft and don't last well. I need to go to more of these far away swap meets. I need a banjo and nobody will part with them around my area that I've been able to find. If you have one and are willing to part, PM me asap. I'll bet I get zero reply.

Have you tried Mike or Bill from the Early Ford Store in San Dimas? They usually have thing's like that. Please note, ... they are pretty busy so they don't alway's pick up the phone in a timely manor. You might have to try a few times.

You might try Bert's in Denver, they have a whole junk yard of original parts. Out here in California a banjo can usually be found at the big swap meets for about $5.

A word of caution, if you come across one at a swap meet and the double race is missing, pass on it because it probably fell out because it was spun when somebody not understanding pre-load tightened down the two large nuts excessively.

Another consideration is the year of manufacture. The ones from the early cars did not have support gussets at the torque tube flange and most are cracked at the two bolt holes on each side nearest the flange. Unless you are restoring an early car for blue ribbon judging it is best to use a later one with the support gussets.

An option I recently had to do is use an Early V8 axle which is longer and machine a new taper and key way onto it. To be honest, for what I was paying for the new axles about pays for my machine shop time to do this.

I have a few that maybe new old stock and a few that are very nice originals. I have to see what I have left from the last model a swapmeet and sold a set last year. I see your local and I can bring them to the swap meet at Freindly Ford.

What year axle is that from. I've done many V8 rear ends and have never seen one where the gear end matched model A.

We are working on getting our own axles made again. Our next batch is due in April. These are American made axle.

Hey Larry,
The V8 axles that I have, are 33 1/8" length with 16 teeth.
The model a axles that I have are shorter by 1 inch+ , and have 24 teeth
