If you can get the owners manual, it should explain it.

www.studebakerclubs.com this site offers the complete Borg Warner shop manual for the overdrive transmission. These overdrives were used by many different automobile manufactures.

Great publication with drawings, operational and trouble shooting tips.

Hope this helps,

Tom

There's plenty of reading available online. Search "Borg Warner Overdrive" because the same unit was used in a lot of different makes.

You will love your overdrive once you understand how it works and how to trouble shoot problems...I had a 56 t-bird that i sold that had overdrive and I currently have a 55 Ford that has overdrive.
There is plenty written about on Borg-Warner overdrive tranny`s out there....have fun...

Lots of reading material on this. Owners manual would be the best bet. I had a '40 Studebaker Commander coupe in my younger days that had it. It was identical to the later Fords. Wish I still had that car. Oh, well.

This isn't a "manual" as such, but it thoroughly explains the operation.
