Default Scam alert

I have been scammed. I posted an ad in the want ads and was messaged by jackdennis4679 that referred me to an email indicating that he knew the part was available. I was looking for the elusive late flathead merc oil pickup.

The whole exchange didn't seem right, but I was super busy at work and had my guard down.

Long story short- the "seller" sent me a pic he scrapped off of ebay, I sent him a Paypal "friends and family" and I'm screwed.

I was also contacted by randygross340 (looks like he is now banned) with the very same angle- now i'm getting fishy emails from a "Brad Williams". ([email protected]).

Be careful guys, this is the first time this has happened to me- never again!

Let me guess, both had just joined and had zero posts? This is happening frequently and I got a similar response from a want ad 2 weeks ago. I ignored them and reported it. I then got a response from a long time member and had the part in a week.

I think generally speaking its a safe rule to never click a link from someone in an email that you don't know.

I experienced a similar situation when trying to buy a car off of eBay several years ago. Really Frustrating. Sorry that happened to you.

Yup, all the signs were there- I wasn't careful and paid the price. I have never had a problem buying here or the hamb so I had my guard down. Don't be me folks!

When ever I list something and get replies, I always look at the profile if it's new I walk away. This is bad for newbies but we have to do what we have to do.

Hey guys... quick update... I was able to take care of one of these guys in a uhh... less than honorable way....

As for the rest, we are no longer allowing new users to see the wanted section or send private messages. You gotta have ten posts and be registered for over 24 hours... This should drive off the rest of them... for a while anyway.

I had a wanted ad on the board for a 36 Ford PU truck grille. I got a message from a person saying they had one that was NOS that they would sell for $100.00, but could not send me any pictures. This immediately raised a red flag for me because a grille in that condition would easily bring 9 or 10x that amount, plus they couldn't send a picture. I played along for several days, and finally told them to send the grille to me, and I would send payment as soon as it arrived. Apparently they didn't like that idea, since I never heard from them again.

So that is why I can't see the HAMB wanted? MY browser new settings turned me into a new user after having an account for 9yrs on HAMB! I can't access my old HAMB account and am Now a 'New user"! Lost all my old scores, customers, and business. No problem on the barn tho.?? Look at my join date here. Newc

The paypal fee for goods and services is reasonable and cheap insurance if you don't know who you are dealing with. I use it all the time. I'll pay it if the seller doesn't accept it.

If PayPal doesn't give your money back, you can claim fraud on your credit card that was tied to your PayPal account. You should be able to get your money back. Usually has 60 day time limit though.

Great job Ryan . . . now please let us know the "less than honorable" methods you used - if nothing else to give all of us who have been scammed at one time or another - cause for some grins and laughter! Please!
