Default Engine Splash Pan Installation Documentation?

My new-to-me Model A didn't come with engine splash pans and I am looking to correct that to help with cooling.

So far I haven't been able to find any documentation on exactly how they're installed. I believe I felt the holes on the outer side of the frame, but am unsure where exactly the two notches on what I believe to be the engine side are connected to.

Any resources I could be pointed to would help.

There are three holes on the frame, the two holes on the other side are held in place with the sump bolts.

I appreciate the link, though that thread is more about the benefits of having them installed versus the actual installation.

On the side with the four holes, does that attach to the bottom of the frame?

Feels like I'd have to seriously bend the entire splash pan as the sump bolts are about an inch higher than the bottom of the frame. And, of course, it looks like not all of the holes line up.

*sigh* Why is nothing easy?

You have a side with four holes? Usually one side has three holes that bolts to the frame and one side has two holes that bolts to the pan rail.

I tap the holes 5/16-18 in the frame to facilitate installation.

And if you have a 1928 there are two (one on each side) that bolt to the front frame crossover..

I just reinstalled mine and like was said there are three holes on the frame (you will need another pair of hands) and two slots for the oil pan bolts. The only thing I will do the next time is maybe put a rubber spacer under the pan bolts to help with vibration as apparently the pans crack due to it. At least that is what I have heard and the really thin metal makes me believe it.

I installed some 'washers' to spread out the contact area of the bolts to the sheet metal.

I like Ruth's idea of tapping the frame. Otherwise you need about three hands to install.

They are easy to put on by yourself. Just take the front fenders off first. .........lol

Mike
A couple washers are needed between the oil pan flange and two tabs with the slots on the splash pan to take up the "slack" under the two bolt heads on each side. Don't want the pan bolts to flatten the small lip on the pan flange and distort the flange. This lip is usually thicker than 1 washer. I have no idea what was original - thicker washers, smashed pan flange lips or more washers.
