I am trying to make some history from ford Argentina
I'm studying the history of Ford in Argentina.
In 1913 Ford appointed Mr. Ellis Houston Hampton as responsible for the first branch of Ford in South America and second in the world after that of Manchester in England. Its first products were Model T, in 1917 the vehicle was assembled from Complete Knock Down (CKD) kits provided by Ford Motor Company in 1917. In 1918, almost 48 Ford T were assembled by day. In 1922 after an investment of 240,000 dollars for the construction, the first large industrial plant of Ford in Argentina was inaugurated. A few month later Ford already had a network of 285 dealers and employed 400 people. After that, and due to the rising demand, the plant was enlarged, coming its staff to 1,500 people. In 1928 the first model A assembled in that plant was launched as "the 100,000th Ford built in Argentina". Now, I am looking for the Mr Hampton life history. It will very helpful for me, if some of the fordbarn colleagues knows about their life. What happened with him? , what he did when he finished working in Ford?, where an when he worked after?, where he died?. In fact, everything about his life As I know, he was born in Galax Virginia in 1885 and his wife was Esther Wintz |

In Argentina ( and Uruguay ) cars were RHD, driving on the left until 1945 then they both changed to driving on the RH side and producing LHD vehicles.
I have a 1939 deluxe factory RHD deluxe convertible that was assembled in the USA and shipped to Argentina. I know what the question was - just a little background - that's all. Last edited by swoopNZ; 08-11-2015 at 09:54 PM. |

A slight correction to your initial statement is in order. Ford of Canada was founded in August, 1904, which made it the first Ford operation outside of the U.S.A., well in advance of an establishment of branches of Ford in England and elsewhere.
You may find www.fordmotorhistory.com to be a useful resource. Last edited by DavidG; 08-12-2015 at 03:58 AM. |

Re: I am trying to make some history from ford Argentina
An interesting facet to consider, though it might be considered a postscript, is the continuing manufacture in Argentina of replacement parts for early Fords. While many of us considered the quality questionable a lot of the reproduction service parts available from the 1960's, 1970's and on were from Argentina. It might just deserve a chapter.
