Re: Factory 4 speed on 31 Vicky ?
Will the F150 RTS and AA bell housing fit right in as a bolt up?
Would the stock drive shaft and universal have to be modified? Is the F150 RTS forth gear an overdrive? Thanks for any info you can give me, I'd really appreciate the help. Al Leach |

Re: Factory 4 speed on 31 Vicky ?
Will the F150 RTS and AA bell housing fit right in as a bolt up?.....No
The bellhousing will bolt up to the flywheel housing. The F150 RTS will not bolt up to the bellhousing. Would the stock drive shaft and universal have to be modified? ...Drive shaft... Yes universal joint...No. Is the F150 RTS forth gear an overdrive?....Yes. Do a search of this subject. There have been many posts regarding it.

Re: Factory 4 speed on 31 Vicky ?
MAG. You are partially right and wrong. The F150 Aluminum Case is Redrilled and Tapped on the front to match the bolt holes in the AA Bell House (or an A BellHouse)- then four new 1/2" bolts are used to attach Trans Case to directly to BH.
As built from the factory not a direct bolt up - with new bolts holes drilled and tapped it is a direct bolt up. |

Re: Factory 4 speed on 31 Vicky ?
MAG,
Thanks for the direct answers to my questions. Looks like the Mitchell is really the best upgrade for the model A. Al |

Re: Factory 4 speed on 31 Vicky ?
There is some machine work required. I built my own. The gears are all syncro with overdrive in the box. The shifter is almost in original location. To me, it is the best driving of all the options available for the Model A. Ron W

Re: Factory 4 speed on 31 Vicky ?
Ken,
"Will the F150 RTS and AA bell housing fit right in as a bolt up?.....No" I chose this answer to the question because I did not want to mislead Al 29 Tudor into thinking this was a true "bolt up" installation. We both know the bolt pattern on the AA bellhousing is not the same pattern as the F150 and that, as you say, the F150 case must be drilled to match the AA bellhousing. And, in some instances, the throwout collar must be machined slightly to fit into the AA bellhousing. I should have been more specific and detailed in my first answer. Sorry,

I suspect a third party did the posting who is not Model A certified.

Re: Factory 4 speed on 31 Vicky ?
It should probably be mentioned that "Bolt on" kits are available from suppliers who have done all the "magical" machine work. Ron W
