Default Help with steering wheel removal?

You Model A guys may know more about this steering wheel than any others. How the heck do I begin to remove this style?

My ring is cracked and jerry rigged together rather dangerously and I need a new one.

Can anyone make a suggestion how to start disassembly?
Thanks,
Jim

The steering wheel is on a '28 Dodge- but the Dodge has a '37 motor and hydraulic brakes as well. Lotsa stuff has been changed and updated- so it looks, to me, like a Model A style steering wheel.

Any ideas?

well, its not a Model A wheel, but if it is similar you do this: Remove the lighting harness bulb from the switch at the lower end of the steering column. If your car is a closed car, you will have to remove the column by disconnecting the clamps, drag link, pittman arm, pedal floor plate and possibly the floorboards and pedals too, then pull the column out through the door; if its an open car you do not have to remove the column. Simply, drop the top and leave the column in place. Depress the small spider and spring that operates the switch and remove the retainer. On a Ford its a C clip. Yours might be the same or it could be a pin or locked by a clamp bolt. Once you have figured out how to get the switching mechanism off the light switch rod, remove the rod. You cannot remove the rod without bending it if the car is closed, hence the instruction to remove the column. Then you can access the nut that holds the steering wheel to the shaft. Do not force the nut too severely. You do not want to break off the threaded part. If its stuck, use penetrating oil and tapping it. Take your time to free it up. If rusty it might take several days of oil and tapping 2-3 times per day. Then use a steering wheel puller to pull the wheel off.
