Spring shackles diameter
Does anybody know what the original spring shackle diameter is? The reason I ask is that I have a handful of worn original shackles built up with weld and ready for machining to true. The aftermarket shackles that I have vary in outside diameters, even on the same shaft.

Off of my May 1, 1931 A-5715 print, the OD of the shank is 0.565"-0.570", -and the area where the tie-bar slides onto the end is 0.434"-0.437". There shows to be a minimum of 8 revisions, so I am not sure if these numbers are the same as on prior prints. but it should get you close. You can likely fit your bushings from these numbers. |

Werner: the picture that you provided is an aftermarket shackle with modern, threaded grease fittings. the 14.5 to 14.55 mm diameter that you gave equates to .571 to .573, which is awfully close to what Brent provided (probably from the paint?) Brent: I'll compare the inside diameter of the bushings with your numbers and probably shoot for the middle number in both ranges. I am guessing that the front and rear shackles used the same diameters, just different shackle lengths. Once again, thank you both for the information. |
