Default Fitting the cowl to the sill wood.

I made the sill boards that run the length of the body on top of the frame for my '31DD and have the front portion that goes under the cowl made with a tight fit. When installing the cowl, it has to be pushed down onto the wood with a bit of force. My question is, to avoid the possibility of squeaks, should I leave it tight or relieve the wood for a relaxed fit. Being tight (with mounting bolts right there) it SHOULDN'T move but, if it does will likely squeak. A relaxed fit has more chance of movement but, if relieved enough to avoid any side contact won't squeak. Thoughts?

That is too tight. Leave room for the wood to expand/contract, and for paint substrates.
