Gas Valve Screen
Pulled my valve this weekend to replace the packing. All went well and a persistent leak (could stop with tightening the packing nut, but then couldn't turn the valve) is now stopped. But the screen that sticks above the valve into the tank was really old and mangled and must be replaced. I don't want to ruin it by just trying to pull out the old screen. Do I just pull it out of the valve? I have ordered a replacement, but don't have it yet.

Re: Gas Valve Screen
Pull it out has a brass sleeve in the valve that the screen attaches to. May have to pick it out.

Re: Gas Valve Screen
Thanks for that input. I just pulled it out of the valve with some pliers and it came out pretty cleanly. Now just to wait for the replacement screen. I suffered the penalty for leaving gas untreated in my baby for over a year here in humid Georgia. What a mess the carb and the gas tank are right now. I HATE that ethanol.

Bummer problem, hang with it, you will triumph over it! I know we are stuck with the damned ethanol junk and the problem gets real bad when the car is rarely driven. (I've seen it happen, even with pure gas.) On my unfinished '29 car, I drained everything, including strainer bowl & carb and wired screenwire over filler neck so there's no condensation in the tank. Ran my '30 about 200 miles a week regularly for 7 years on ethanol and never had a problem. When I would open the drain cock on the cast iron sediment bowl, never had water in it. I feel that the "secret," is very frequent driving and having reasonably fresh fuel. (Yes, I realize I don't live in the COLD ice & snow & salt country, and I'm sorry for you all that have to deal with that!) Bill W.
