Default Stromberg 97

What should I expect for a good rebuilt ready to go 97? Thinking of putting one on my Model A.

A mixture of gas and air.

I don't think anyone understands your question.

It depends on who is supplying it and whether it is a rebuilt one, whether you supply a good core or a new one.

You can contact Uncle MAX on here, or Mike at ThirdGen, etc.. Or, you can buy a brand new one that looks brand new and runs like brand new. My guess on prices is from about $350 to $550.

Be careful what you buy in a new one. I would avoid those cheap ones from China.

You can buy a rebuildable core for 100 to 175 dollars then you have the cost of rebuilding. Dave/Green Bay

Some guys rebuild them with a can of carb cleaner and a gasket kit from the cheapest place they can find. Then some guys are experts and will send you a carb that will be perfect because they have lived with Strombergs for decades. Go with the latter, a guy like Uncle Max.

It depends on what look you want. I can rebuild yours for 150$ That would include soda blasting, ultra sonic cleaning and replacement of needed parts. If you want it re anodized or painted or replacing screws or parts not usually replaced, the time to do it goes up and of course price of parts. I am just starting to do this as a hobby but I am a retired mechanic and am doing this to change my 94's to 97's. There are several different types of 94's used in different applications. If interested contact me.

If you want a good re-built Stromberg 97 carburetor, at a reasonable price, contact Brad Cannon, 1-775-771-3042, or e-mail, [email protected]

Rebuilds can be inconsistent in their quality. I'm sure there are many good re builders but why not spend a little more and get one of the new 97's made in England. I've used a few of them and they seem to work good right out of the box.

Been running the new English 97's since they were first available and the only problem I have had was early on with a sticking Grose Jet. Stromberg promptly sent me new ones as well as gaskets and new floats at no charge.

Did the Grose jet stick open or shut?

My 1941 flathead had a Holley 94 in it when I bought it a little over a year ago. It was a real pig to drive because of multiple minor issues. I rebuilt the Holley myself with a quality kit. It helped but it wasn't great. No doubt one of the recommended experts here on Ford Barn could have done it much better, checking all the mating surfaces squareness, throttle shaft play, and all the other magic they know. It wasn't a factory correct carb so not worth preserving. Rather than have one of the experts rebuild it again, I just started over and bought a brand new genuine Stromberg 97.

It was like putting a new engine in the car! Every single engine related issue disappeared.

Everyone's circumstances are different but that's how mine worked out.

Open. Ran down the hwy just fine but as soon as I lifted the gas pedal to slow down she flooded and quit. Easy fix.

The early English 97's came with Nitrile floats that had some issues so they went back to brass floats.
