Windshield gasket on a 30 Briggs Town sedan
I've just replaced the windshield gaskets on my 30 town sedan.. added the hinge gasket as one was missing when I replaced the side and bottom gaskets. Now have zero clearance between the windshield and the gas tank. Did Briggs eliminate the top gasket?? Pain in the Bu-- but see no resolution except to remove the top hinge gasket. Has anyone out there run into this problem with a Briggs 30 sedan??

they all had the top hinge rubber. a lot of times when the header gets replaced, they do not get the header and the header cover installed correctly, the windshield ends up to tight. over the years I have cut down some windshield frames to fit.

Compare the old gasket to the replacement. Had the same problem with a Coupe. New gasket had the wrong cross section, or shape. Lucky I had saved the old gasket when removed, cleaned it up and installed it and the WS fits.

There are two different styles of gaskets for the area between the windshield frame and car body. They do have different cross sections. One is for a straight windshield and the other is for a slant windshield.

If you are using a reproduction gas cap it might sit to tall . I used a original and the windshield opened and closed as it should .

Re: Windshield gasket on a 30 Briggs Town sedan
Thanks for all the suggestions. Found that the gasket needs to have two spaces removed to let the hinge mate metal to metal with the header cover. Tightening the screws up tight also solved the problem. Of interest, the gas cap is also an original as is most of this unrestored town sedan.

Hi, I have my first S. The windshield seems to have no hinge. Could that be?
I have some pictures, but don't know how to post them here. David |
