Default vent window crank mechanism removal and installation ?s

I'm in the process of removing my vent windows and crank mechanisms from my 41 Tudor sedan. I noticed that the crank mechanisms are riveted to the garnish moldings on one set of garnish moldings I have where as the other sets have bolts holding the crank stem part in. How do you reattach the riveted style cranks after you repair the gears? Are these a special type of rivet? any advice is much appreciated.
Thanks
Matt

I've just replace the vent windows and the gears in the mechanism on my '41 coupe and you don't need to take the winder off the garnish molding you can replace the gears by just separating the mechanism in place. Mine were bolted together from new, I understand that the later ones were riveted together. Hope this helps?

When I fixed the ones in my 48, I just bolted them together with machine screws that fit the holes.

Thanks meric42 and paul2748, that really helps. I have a set of really rough 4 door garnish moldings that have good cranks and are bolted in and a good set of 2 door moldings that have riveted in crank mechanisms, so now I know how I can I swap them out.

Had the same question when I replaced the stripped gears on my '41 wind wings. Yep, replace with machine screws.

46fatford I did this job last year on my '46 Coupe. Just make sure the bolts face the same way as I did. The rivets in the kit are the wrong size if you were going to use them.
